Nuclear Survival in
Kansas

This is the nuclear target map for Kansas, but remember, fallout can go anywhere or everywhere (and probably will). After you have looked at this map look at the Information for Kansas that follows it.

This link will take you back to the Index of all the States

Nuclear Weapon Target Map for Kansas (FEMA-196/September 1990)Kansas targets

UPDATE to Target Information!!!

Information for Kansas

It is recommended that you go through the following 10 steps in studying about the nuclear threat to Kansas.

1. Look at the State Map above to see the target nuclear areas in Kansas.

2. Look at the general expected fallout map to see where Kansas
(according to the prevailing wind pattern)
gets fallout from other states.

3. If the state that you live in is anywhere EAST of any of the following 6 states in the prevailing wind pattern then look at the states in RED on the INDEX of STATES for

  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Nebraska
  • Missouri
  • Colorado

  • These six states contain what is called DENSE PACK which I explain on each of those states pages. UNDERSTAND that the wind pattern COULD at that time be something other than the "prevailing" wind pattern.

    4. Bookmark the present URL or make a copy of this present address so that you can come back to it after going to

    Blast Mapper.

This mapper is on someone else's web site so that you will need to save this address in order to return here if your back button doesn't work. However, you want to be sure to go the mapper site and calculate the damage to probable targets (cities) around you.

    5. Memorize the THREE top rules for survival. They are:

  • Number One - Get out of the cities!

  • Number Two - Get out of the cities!

  • Number Three - Get out of the cities!

  • 6. The follow-on rules are:
  • a. Have a shelter
  • b. Work with a group (you are going to need the manpower, brainpower, and skillpower).
  • c. Stock supplies.

    7. My Survival Web Page contains links to lots of other information such as free books to download about nuclear survival, links to plans for building shelters, and even free consultation about building a shelter.

    8. If you are SUPER concerned about nuclear survival you might consider joining the

    Ark Two Community.

    9. If you like, you can look at our Honor List for groups that we know of that have an existing rural location. Most of these, however, have no direct interest or preparation in regards to nuclear survival. At the bottom of this page is a Directory of our contacts in Kansas. Many of the local entries for states were listed because of their Y2K concerns and may not have any nuclear concerns.

    10. And finally if you would like to be on the mailing list of the author of this site - send a blank email to:

    099. NEW EDEN HOMESTEAD COMMUNITY

Plainville [NW Kansas – Rooks County] We are in the process of sub-dividing 160 acres of Rich Western Kansas Farmland into 3 acre parcels for those desiring to relocate to a rural area where they can become Materially Self-Sufficient with their own Land, Private Water Well, Garden/Truck Farm, Livestock etc

. Full details about New Eden Homestead Community are available at :

    New Eden Web Site

The 160 acre site for New Eden Homestead Community is located 4 miles North and 4 miles West of Plainville, Kansas.

Plainville is a small town of around 2200 people, with the population of Rooks County just under 6000. Even if the population of Rooks County Kansas doubled or tripled to 12,000 or 18,000 people, it is unlikely that any one town in the county would have more than 3000 population – in which the Few Bad Apples will continue to be known, avoided or controlled.

Plainville is located 23 miles north of Hays, Kansas – with Hays mid-way between Kansas City and Denver on US I-70.

Plainville and Rooks County Kansas perfectly fit Gary North's rule-of-thumb criteria of being in a rural area that is at least 20 miles from a city of 20,000 – and 100 miles or more from a city of 100,000.

Plainville fits that criteria perfectly, in that we are 23 miles from Hays, Kansas which has a population of 20,000 – and the closest cities over 100,000 are Wichita and Topeka which are both more than 200 miles from Plainville.

Another factor that makes Rooks County Kansas unique, is the fact that there is no Zoning or Building Code. Outside the City Limits, there are only 2 restrictions in Rooks County. If you want to drill a Private Water Well, you must obtain a $5 permit from Rooks County. Once the well has been drilled, you then report its existence to the State of Kansas.

The next and only remaining restriction is that of Private Wastewater Control, in which you must part with the outrageous sum of $20 to get a permit to have an Outdoor Privy, or build a Septic Tank/Leaching Field Sewer System on your land.

Otherwise, you just build what and where you like on your own property, under the logical presumption that you will wire your dwelling and other structures to meet the National Electrical Code, and that the structural integrity of what you build will not result in the building collapsing and endangering people's lives.

In Rooks County Kansas, you are free to live in any type dwelling that you wish – ranging from a Palace to a Trailer House, Sod Hut or Pup Tent!

You are further free to live in Rooks County Kansas as you please, engage in whatever endeavors you wish for your livelihood or recreation, and will be left alone – unless you create a Health Hazard, Public Disturbance or otherwise violate the law. Life in Rooks County Kansas is governed by the Golden Rule – Live and Let Live. No, Plainville and Rooks County Kansas don't look like a ghetto – or resemble Fred Sanford & Son's Junk Yard. The vast majority of people take great pride in the maintenance and appearance of their homes, yards and other property.

No major or long-lasting Y2K problems are envisioned in Rooks County Kansas, other than the possible temporary loss of Electrical Power and possibly our Natural Gas Supply, which are the only 2 Public Utilities in which certain segments of the system are computer-controlled.

There are always some houses for sale or rent in Plainville, a few lots are available on which to build – and, as in the county, you are free to put a Trailer House or Mansion on any of the vacant lots in the City of Plainville. You are free to have a Private Water Well drilled on your land within the City of Plainville, and most houses have ample space for a garden.

For those who would like to see Color Photos of the Metamorphosis of a Kansas Wheat Field into the Garden of Eden, go to our website (above) and click-on "New Eden Homestead Community", and then on the left side of the screen click-on "Picture Gallery".

The Planner & Land Developer [Ned Colburn] is a General Contractor, Plumber & Electrician, who – along with others of similar backgrounds – will provide Total Turn-Key Capabilities to those who want to become part of the Planned Community Development. Offered services will include the Planning, Design Engineering and Construction of Houses, Wood & Coal Burning Fireplaces & Furnaces that will Centrally Heat an entire house, Solar & Other Back-Up Heating Systems, Installation of Septic Tank/Leaching Field Sewer Systems, Water Well Drilling & Hook-Up, Installation of Back-Up Electrical Power Generators, Solar Panels & Wind Generators.

The Leading U.S. Company for Manufactured Housing [Schult Homes] has a factory in Plainville, Kansas.

For all new construction, we recommend a full basement with a Storage Cellar that is accessible from inside the house. Alternatively, we are a distributor for a Full Line of Sub-Terrain Utility Shelters which can be used to store food and other items – and also serve as a Storm Shelter with an occupancy capacity from 4 to 20 people. Such shelters are made of heavy-gauge steel, and are "Hot-Dipped Galvanized" and treated to resist rust and corrosion.

Conquest International Corporation provides a long list of Products & Services for Self-Sufficiency and Emergency Preparedness but they cannot be listed here because it is contrary to the philosophy of this website. (Even the above goes a bit far).

Subject: Anonymous E-Mail Posting on Open Forum

Like our Anonymous Friend, I too am apalled at [his] [her] unfounded statements and attempt to characterize us as using Y2K to make money.

It is obvious that Anonymous has not fully read everything that we have on the internet concerning New Eden Homestead Community, since each and every subject posed by the writer is addressed in detail at http://www.conquestinc.com -- including the price of the land and the water situation.

We originally based the price of $8000 per acre on the basis of developing a totally city-like community with Asphalt Streets, Curb, Gutter, Storm Drainage System, Street Lighting, Full Commercial Utilities [Electricity, Gas, Water] etc. Such development was originally planned on a piece of land immediately adjacent to the Plainville City Limits, using the same dollar amount that the City of Plainville and appraisers assign per finished improved lot.

Our present price of $7000 per acre is based on development of a different piece of ground, in which we will not have Asphalt Streets, Curb, Gutter, a Storm Drainage System, Street Lighting or Natural Gas.

The $7000 includes the construction of more than 1 mile of All-Weather Hard Surface Road [Rock & Shale], plus construction of an Elevated City-Type Water Tower and/or Underground/Surface Water Reservoir to augment the supply of Commercial Water from the Rural Water District pipelines that run the full length of the 160 acres on the West & South sides of the property.

It is not true that the water in Rooks County tastes like petroleum due to contamination from oil production. It is true that a few Private Water Wells in Rooks County are unusable due to contaminated from chemicals used in treating oil wells, but this is in no way the prevailing situation. There has never been oil production on the 160 acres, and there is nothing to indicate that the aquifier that serviced previous water wells is contaminated or unusable. In any event, the land-owners will have the choice of Commercial Water from the Rural Water District, or a Private Water Well -- involving a $3000 water tap-fee per building site, which also equates to the price of the average Private Water Well in Rooks County [50-60 foot depth].

Our purchase price for the 160 acres is several times the amount indicated by Anonymous, and such purchase price has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the improved value of the property -- which will be a virtual city with the value of a finished improved lot approximating that of unincorporated towns in the area.

Would our Anonymous Critic sub-divide 160 acres into 3 acre parcels and sell them for $550 per acre? If that figure is indeed the existing market value of farmland in Rooks County and Anonymous develops a city-like community on the land, it doesn't take an Einstein IQ to do the arithmetic and find that you've gone into bankruptcy just from the initial costs of the Land, Legal Expense, Surveys, Platting, Drilling Water Well Test Holes etc -- even before you get to the Other Major Cost Items involving Road Construction, Water Tower/Reservoir Holding and Pumping Station, and ancillary costs in providing Commercial Utilities to the property.

As to the price of wheat at $0.135 per pound, Anonymous apparently believes that the Prevailing Spot Market Price of Wheat is what an Interim Buyer/Re-Seller should both purchase and re-sell the wheat for! Again, if Anonymous wants to invest [his] [her] time, effort and money in selling wheat at its purchase price, the end result is more than predictable!

When the cost of wheat from other suppliers is 3-5 times what we charge, we have nothing but happy customers who praise instead of criticize us, and who don't feel that we are making an inordinate profit, in view of the fact that we have to handle the wheat 4 times -- when picked-up from the supplier, when unloaded into storage bins, when packed in buckets/drums, and when a specific order is assembled for shipment loading. When our Operating Costs & Overhead are added to the equation for Warehouse Storage, Utilities, Insurance, Office Equipment/Supplies, Phone, Fax, Internet Site and Administration Payroll, we only make a marginal profit on wheat -- which goes to Christian/Humanitarian Outreach.

Profits from Conquest International Corporation and the New Eden Homestead Community land development project will be donated to Paraclete Foundation to function as Joseph's Quartermaster in Filling the Warehouses of Egypt in preparation for The Coming Bad Times. Paraclete Foundation is a tax-exempt Kansas Corporation under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue code. As such, all contributions to Paraclete Foundation qualify as a tax-deductible charitable contribution for income tax purposes.

I don't know what agenda or motivation Anonymous has in questioning and falsely attacking our credibility, but our sole purpose is to help others Prepare Spiritually & Materially for The Coming Bad Times -- not just for ourselves and our families, but for those who don't realize there is a problem, those who full well know but don't have the means to become materially prepared -- and even those Scoffers and False Accusers whom we will gladly share whatever abundance God Almighty may provide us with to demonstrate Christianity-In-Action [CIA].

When such Scoffers & False Accusers arrive on our doorstep, we won't turn them away, nor tell them to w ipe the egg off their face or eat lots of bitter humble pie before we invite them in out of the weather, give them Food, Drink, Medicine, Clothing and any Other Essentials of Life that we have stockpiled from our allegedly "ILL GOTTEN GAIN" in trying to use Y2K as a way to make inordinate profits!

Our Prayers & Best Regards to All -- including our Anonymous Brother or Sister!

    116. SEEKING COMMUNITY

    Wichita, Kansas

We are looking for people who feel a strong desire to do the following:

  • 1. To form and live in a durable intentional community, one that would be highly likely to outlast the lives of all its original members.

  • 2. To form and live in a community that can deal effectively with the problems caused by Y2K.

  • 3. To live in close fellowship with not more than six adult fellow-members.

Once we find such people, we are looking among them for people who recognize the truth of the following statements:

  • 1. We cannot use our having similar likes and dislikes or values as a durable basis for living together in community, because our values will never be totally identical and what we value will always keeps changing over time.

  • 2. Our living together must be based on something, a common direction of striving, that we each perceive to be of ultimate importance to our existence and wellbeing as humans, a direction of striving that we cannot pursue without each other's wholehearted cooperation.

  • 3. If we do not have a durable basis such as that to unite us, we will always be thinking that we have to keep trying to find other people with whom to live, people whose values may more nearly match ours; or we will believe that we have to keep trying to find people whom we think we can control, people whom we think we can make cooperate with our values.

In other words, we are looking for prospective fellow-members who can recognize the importance, before all else, of our identifying a durable and ultimate direction of striving, one that all of us can easily recognize as our ultimate standard and guide for our collective judging which course of action in any immediate situation is the better choice, the course more likely to help us to fulfill all our basic human needs. By ultimate standard we are not referring, of course, to any moral standard such as The Golden Rule, but to a standard that can be used to evaluate everything including rules or principles. By "basic human needs" we are referring not only to survival, but much more importantly, to our need for a sense of belonging, freedom, power, and fun.

If this describes you, we wish to invite you to join with us in trying out the following ultimate standard: that alternative is better which we all wholeheartedly agree is more likely to promote what we are calling "creative interchange."

By "creative interchange" we refer to the natural process (not the procedure or the idea) that is probably seen and experienced in its most dramatic form enabling infants to learn to understand and speak a language. We are referring to the social process that involves emerging insight into and appreciation for what the other person is trying to communicate regarding his/her way of valuing the alternatives arising out of the immediate social vivid present. It is the process, we believe, that any fair-minded test will demonstrate that insofar as people join together in a lifelong commitment to make its promotion their ruling and guiding concern, it can enable them to fulfill all their basic human needs in a way far surpassing any other. This includes enabling them not only to be completely open and honest with each other but also to be mutually helpful to each other as they go about the business of trying to fulfill their basic human needs.

If you would like to have an opportunity to try out for several days or, perhaps, a week what creative interchange can do for you under the conditions specified above, please contact us at the email address listed below. This opportunity is offered free of charge.
